3D Not Likely For the Next Nintendo Console

While the Nintendo 3DS is a hit, it looks like convincing customers to buy a 3D console would be a little more difficult. Glasses-Free 3D is a very attractive feature, because let's be honest, wearing those glasses is a pain in the ass. In order to play 3D on a console, consumers would need to purchase a special TV with 3D glasses, or a special LCD screen which is more than likely an expensive ordeal. Reggie Fils-Aime has made comments that would almost signify no 3D for the new Nintendo console:

"Glasses-free is a big deal. We’ve not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we’ve learned on 3-D, likely, that won’t be it."

I think that it would be really cool if Nintendo could figure out a solution. If anyone could do 3D gaming without glasses on a console for the masses, it would be Nintendo. In fact, most of us now know that Nintendo has dabbled in 3D gaming on consoles in the past, most notably the Gamecube which Hideki Konno comments on:

"It would have required consumers to buy a special LCD screen to attach to the GameCube to actually play. We didn’t think it was worth that investment for consumers, so it never came out."

Hopefully Nintendo will someday bring 3D console gaming (without glasses) to the world because that would be pretty sweet. There really isn't much to worry about in my opinion, Nintendo's new console will surely go above and beyond with innovation for the gaming industry, mark my words.
