Rabbids 3D Review
Nintendo Universe, Rabbids 3D Review
"Taking recent Wii outing Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time as its premise, Rabbids 3D sees the critters stumble upon a time-travelling washing machine whilst playing around at a local museum. With its present occupant sporting a rather fetching rubber ring in the form of a duck, a scuffle breaks loose that sees several Rabbids propelled into the machine before it blasts itself back to the Prehistoric era. So begins your quest to find duck rubber rings across four different time zones, including Prehistory, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome or the Middle Ages."

New Wii Games to Be Announced at E3
James Honeywell, Marketing Manager Nintendo UK, has told CVG that the Wii will play an important role in this year's E3 Showcase. Nintendo as of late have been focusing all their efforts on the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii has been a second thought, but his comments give us something to look forward to at E3:
""I guess we haven't made any announcements recently because we've been concentrating on the 3DS launch, but there are still lots of games to come. I'm sure you'll see at this year's E3. For anybody who has a Wii, they can rest assured that we'll be bringing some fantastic new experiences to them."

Steel Diver (3DS) Review
Nintendo Life, Steel Diver Review
"To say that Steel Diver makes great use of the system's 3D depth would be a gross understatement. Not only does the game's 3D visuals do an outstanding job of really drawing you into the surroundings, but it also provides plenty of moments that will really wow you with its depth and realism. Even the simple underwater areas you'll be traversing really spring to life on the 3D screen. It would have been nice to see a bit more size and detail with the submarines themselves, but the flashy moments spent tracking down ships on the storm-laden seas in Periscope Mode more than make up for the few slightly average visual moments that pop up."

WWE All Stars (Wii) Review
"WWE All Stars features a good roster of characters, and there's a decent range of fights. While the Extreme Rules and Cage variants are admittedly pretty weak, the four-player and tag matches are a great way to get everyone in the house involved. It's not too deep, but it's certainly deeper than it looks."
Rabbids 3D (3DS) Review
"Each world has lots of levels, but things get a bit repetitive by the time you reach the 16th prehistoric level and realise you've only seen two environments. So it's a good job the gameplay is solid and platforming has the right 'feel' - you won't much mind the repetitive backgrounds, as you'll be too busy running and jumping to care."

Nyko Power Pack+ Review (3DS Battery Pack)
"Since battery tests are tedious affairs, I decided to torture the thing until it tapped out. I put in Rayman 3D,
a relatively graphically intense 3D game, and played that the entirety
of the testing period. There was almost no time spent on menus or
browsing my friends list; it was all play time. I turned the brightness
all the way up and made sure I was connected to the Internet. The 3D
slider was likewise set to maximum with power save mode disabled. I
disconnected the headphones and made sure the speakers were cranking out
sound for maximum battery drain. I took five-minute breaks here and
there to rest my eyes. This is the absolute worst-case scenario when it
comes to 3DS battery life, and has very little relation to real-world
use cases."

GamePro Feature: Remembering the Game Boy Advance
"It's the tenth anniversary of the Game Boy Advance,
and some of us are still holding onto it like drowning men to a life
raft. Even though the Nintendo 3DS is aiming to be the new face of
handheld gaming, there's still plenty of reason to love this little
device. Metroid Fusion, Advance Wars, Pokemon Emerald, WarioWare and
tons of Final Fantasy titles flesh out a library that rivals today's
consoles, and we're dedicating this feature to the GBA and its games."

Nintendo Building New Research & Development in Kyoto
Nintendo plans to build a new Research and Development facility closer to its main office in Japan. Building closer to the main Nintendo office will allow for improved efficiency. It will eventually be Nintendo's main research facility for product development and will be home for 1,500 employees. Construction begins in Janurary 2012 and is expected to be operational some time in 2013. Nintendo definitely has some ideas that they need to make a reality, and this would be a great start.

Ridge Racer 3D GamePro Review
Ridge Racer 3D
"The game implements the 3D effects much more effectively than the other launch titles. Obviously the intrinsic z-axis-based gameplay of racers lends well to 3D, but Ridge Racer 3D certainly exudes a level of polish that you can't find in the other available launch racer, Asphalt 3D. Namco Bandai does a better job in choosing foreground assets that enhance as opposed to distract. This is mostly exemplified by the confetti and cherry blossoms that land on the camera and, of course, the ubiquitous camera chopper fly-bys."

No More Heroes 3 Not Happening Anytime Soon
Last night, Suda 51 held an event to promote his new Shadows of The Damned game and there was some discussion of a new No More Heroes game. Though the discussion isn't likely going to make Travis Touchdown fans too happy, it at least leaves the possibility of a sequel open for the future. Here is what Suda had to say about No More Heroes 3:
""Although it won't happen soon, I'd like to do it at some point"
I am an extremely huge fan of the No More Heroes series and would love another entry. Maybe Suda will consider a 3DS No More Heroes?

GameInformer Feature: The Top Ten Mario Games of All Time
10. Super Mario Bros. (NES, 1985)With the introduction of series mainstays like the fire flower and mushroom, the iconic music and sound effects, and its challenging-yet-rewarding gameplay, the first Super Mario Bros. laid a foundation that still has an impact in 2011. Every Mario game ever owes its existence to the great platformer that Shigeru Miyamoto presented to gamers in 1985, and it still plays well today. It may not feature all the bells and whistles of later titles, but its rock-solid controls and level variety make it more than just a nostalgia act.

Capsule Computers Monster Tale Review
"The Nintendo DS has seen plenty of fantastic titles over the past few years, but very few have actually been new IPs, or a new IP with promise that is. Dreamrift are looking to change that with the release of Monster Tale. Imagine a game with the gameplay of Metroid with a dash of Pokemon added in along with a brand new set of characters that are charming and quite memorable. That is exactly the experience players are in for with Monster Tale, and while it may not be perfect, it is still a tale worth exploring. Here is my review for Monster Tale for the Nintendo DS."

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions Feature Six Games
Other than the Pac-Man Tilt and Galaga 3D games that we already know about, this 3DS game features four more titles that fans should get excited about. We will be getting the two classic arcade games, Pac-Man and Galaga, but they will be remade in 3D to make it appear as if you're looking into an arcade cabinet. Other than that we will also be getting modernized versions of both classics that previously released on X-Box and Playstation consoles. Those games would be Pac-Man Championship Edition and Galaga Legions. Now we transform a so-so looking game into a must buy for arcade enthusiasts.

What Street Fighter Character Does Yoshinori Ono Want in Super Smash Bros?
None other than M. Bison. Ono has stated that he would want mega villain M. Bison to create chaos amongst the land of Nintendo. Other than that, Ono also states that he thinks if any Capcom character makes it into Super Smash Bros. that it should be Mega Man. I would have to agree, Mega Man would be a better fit in the Nintendo universe. Although, it would be interesting to see M. Bison tangle with Ganondorf.

Asphalt 3D Review
Nintendo Universe, Asphalt 3D
" Asphalt 3D in itself is quite solid, offering a racing experience that differs to that provided by Ridge Racer 3D. However the areas it falls down relate to technicalities, with the graphics never quite seeming on par. Whilst the 3D effect works especially well, much of the graphical prowess seems to have been dedicated on the cars rather than that of the surrounding environments. Incredibly bland, there are many occasions were the backdrops of each track will pop-up in places making for a rather jarring experience. Cars fantastic, tracks not so."

Nintendo Wants to Work With Indie Game Developers
Nintendo has a strong stance against crappy iPhone cash-in games appearing on Nintendo download services, but that doesn't mean they want to avoid Indie developers completely. In fact, Nintendo has embraced Indie developers on both WiiWare and DSiWare. Cave Story was a great Indie PC game that made its way to WiiWare and DSiWare services, and it will also be appearing on the 3DS with a 3D remake. Granted, it wasn't just Nintendo that made this possible as Nicalis played a gigantic part in the realization of these games. Reggie Fils-Aime has gone on to explain Nintendo's position with Indie Developers:
"We've been clear that we want to work with independent developers who understand this business, who have experience in this business. These are people who spent time working with larger publishers and larger developers, but had that idea in the back of their head that they needed to bring to life ... and so that's the type of entity that we want to work with.
These are talented developers. That's different from the person who envisions themselves as a developer, but actually hasn't necessarily created anything, who doesn't necessarily understand what it takes in this business to create compelling content. That's where we draw the line. I'll tell you, if someone calls us tomorrow who has no experience in the gaming industry, but has a passion and has a great idea, our perspective would be, 'Great, but get some experience. Understand your craft, and then come back to us."

3D Not Likely For the Next Nintendo Console
While the Nintendo 3DS is a hit, it looks like convincing customers to buy a 3D console would be a little more difficult. Glasses-Free 3D is a very attractive feature, because let's be honest, wearing those glasses is a pain in the ass. In order to play 3D on a console, consumers would need to purchase a special TV with 3D glasses, or a special LCD screen which is more than likely an expensive ordeal. Reggie Fils-Aime has made comments that would almost signify no 3D for the new Nintendo console:
"Glasses-free is a big deal. We’ve not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we’ve learned on 3-D, likely, that won’t be it."
I think that it would be really cool if Nintendo could figure out a solution. If anyone could do 3D gaming without glasses on a console for the masses, it would be Nintendo. In fact, most of us now know that Nintendo has dabbled in 3D gaming on consoles in the past, most notably the Gamecube which Hideki Konno comments on:
"It would have required consumers to buy a special LCD screen to attach to the GameCube to actually play. We didn’t think it was worth that investment for consumers, so it never came out."
Hopefully Nintendo will someday bring 3D console gaming (without glasses) to the world because that would be pretty sweet. There really isn't much to worry about in my opinion, Nintendo's new console will surely go above and beyond with innovation for the gaming industry, mark my words.

Samurai Warriors: Chronicles
"Aside from a few Japanese history professors, most people probably won’t care about anything other than Chronicle’s combat. Actually, most people probably won’t care about that either. If you understand how to work the Y button on your 3DS then you’ll have no problem playing this game. As usual, your character is a one-man army who travels across the battle map hacking through enemy soldiers, killing important enemy commanders, and protecting vital NPCs. There isn’t a lot of variety there."
Asphalt 3D
"Like Burnout, Asphalt 3D switches to a dramatic slow-mo camera when you take down an opponent. Remember how that series made your jaw drop with these teeth-rattling, metal-twisting sights? Well, Asphalt 3D’s dramatic camera only serves to highlight the complete lack of collision detection. I saw dozens of crashes during my time with the game, and there wasn’t a single one that didn’t feature a car magically warping directly through another."

Super Monkey Ball 3D
"Super Monkey Ball 3D is, in some ways, Nintendo's worst nightmare. While it's a perfectly serviceable 3DS title that does a fair job of showing off the system's capabilities, it's hard to deny that it was done almost as well (and for less money) on iOS platforms a few years ago. Add in the fact that the 3D component is a poor fit for the series, and you have a Monkey Ball that never reaches its potential on the 3DS."
Steel Diver
"Out of the 3DS's handful of launch titles, Steel Diver struck me as a bit of a rogue. Unlike Street Fighter, Madden NFL Football, Super Monkey Ball, Nintendogs, and the handheld's other early games, Steel Diver isn't a sequel or a 3D-rendered re-release. Throughout Diver's mission-based campaign, players are tasked with defending the fate of the world against a rogue, power-hungry nation in a series of underwater battles, calling for a delicate balance of meticulous controls and slow-paced strategy."

"Lastly is the obedience trial, a mode that uses the console's packaged AR cards to place your dog in the real world. After pointing the 3DS cameras at the card, your best friend emerges, ready to show off his or her tricks with specific objectives required to pass. In all honesty, there's no real reason for this to use AR rather than in-game backgrounds, but it's an impressive trick that's sure to impress, particularly when using the character cards."

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (3DS) Review
Nintendo Life - Lego Star Wars III
"Of course as you probably expected, most of the 3DS' extra power is used on the visuals, which are undeniably mesmerising. Whether you have the 3D turned on or off, LEGO Star Wars III is one great looking game, with incredible texture work, sharp lighting effects and beautiful environments. The 3D is, as expected, a double-edged sword — the frame rate takes a hit if you have it turned on, but it also adds a surprising amount of depth to the environments, and makes the otherwise jagged character models appear much smoother. It's not the best showcase of the system's graphical prowess on the launch lineup, but it's a visual treat nonetheless."

Bust-a-Move Universe (3DS)
"Bust-a-Move Universe features two game modes: Puzzle and Challenge. In Puzzle mode, players go through tons of different levels as they pop different colored bubbles. Each stage has a differing theme from the last, and each has a spinning planet in the background. With the 3D effect turned on the spinning planets look really nice, and bars on either side of the top screen pop out. The effect is easy on the eyes, so most players won't have a problem with playing the game with the 3D slider turned all the way up."
Radiant Historia (DS)
"Visually, Atlus' latest RPG makes great use of the power available on Nintendo's handheld. The world is large and varied, complete with multiple desert regions, forests, and cities. Radiant Historia features a great looking art style, as every character in the game has some dark shading – it's a refreshing change of pace from the Anime styled characters in most RPGs. Yoko Shimomura, of Kingdom Hearts fame, put together a fantastic soundtrack for the game, which features a wonderful battle and "despair" track. Sadly, there are only a handful of different tunes in the game so they may grow old after the first eight to ten hours of the adventure."

ONM: Eric Nofsinger Answers Your Conduit 2 Questions
Ben707 asks:
I'm an avid Call of Duty player. Why should I buy this?
Eric Nofsinger:
I think there's a lot that set us apart from Call Of Duty and GoldenEye for that matter. I think they're both good games. I think we're definitely competitive with both of them, aesthetically and visually. What sets us apart from Black Ops is that we're exclusive to the Wii and take advantage of the hardware. GoldenEye, I think our multiplayer is definitely far more robust and that's what we set out to accomplish.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters Review
GameInformer Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12
"This game supports the Wii Balance Board, but I suggest you skip it. It records your balance during your swing, but more often than not trying to match up your balance with the indicator reticle just gets in the way of producing a good, natural swing. I also don’t feel that the game always properly rewards you with the correct balance points for good or bad shots."

PROS:
Impressive visuals; good variety of missions; great soundtrack; lots of collectibles and extra challenges; interesting new flight vehicles.
CONS:
No online gameplay or leaderboards; depth and targeting is hard to judge when the 3D is turned on; no ad-hoc multiplayer; short replay value; time limit on Free Flight mode is annoying.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D (3DS) Review
Nintendo Life PES 2011 3D
"Graphically the game is superb: animation is excellent, player likenesses are well crafted and it runs at a slick pace overall, though there are noticeable frame rate drops during goal celebrations. The default Player View camera shows off the 3D nicely, spinning around the pitch to track the player you're controlling, but while it looks nice in full attacking flow it leaves a lot to be desired in defensive mode, feeling like a first step into 3D that we may not see again. There are four other camera settings, all of which work far better, so it's worth changing the option to your liking."

WWE All Stars (Wii) IGN Review
"Here, characters are action figure versions of themselves with gigantic
torsos and booming biceps. Moves are the trademarks you'd know from
watching folks like the Rock and Jake "the Snake" Roberts, but they're
embellished with flips, leaps into the sky, and bone-crushing impacts
that would destroy mortal men. When I heard about WWE All Stars, I was
told it plays as if a little kid was describing a match he watched last
night. That description rings true with the final product, and it makes
for a really stunning game."

Loyal Club Nintendo Members Getting A Surprise Party
Well, Club Nintendo members aren't exactly receiving a party, but they get something that is pretty darn close. Some loyal Club Nintendo members have been receiving a copy of Wii Party and a Pink Wii Motion+ remote, plus some other cool extras. There are no strings attached, and the exact qualifications for this present aren't exactly clear. However, it's a pretty exciting time to be a Club Nintendo member.

Two Wiiloveit.com Reviews
Ghost Mania
"Gameplay is pretty straight-forward, albeit very familiar. Basically you have a line of blocks gradually rising upwards from the bottom of the playing field. Your goal is to prevent the blocks from getting that far using a line of blocks located at the top of the play area. To do that, you'll use your cursor to select the correct like-coloured blocks that will match up with the ones below. Players can use the left and right buttons on either their Wii Remote or Classic Controller to move their cursor along the aforementioned horizontal line. Under the former control scheme, pressing the 1 Button will drop whatever blocks are inside the highlighted area down below, while pressing the 2 Button will swap their placement. This can be used to get the right colours needed to continue making good matches."
Dino Strike
"At first glance, Dino Strike seems like a sufficient afternoon romp for those who need a dinosaur-shooting fix. However, the only way you'll actually find a morsel of enjoyment out of this title is if your expectations are very low. While this may not be as bad as some of the other cheap Wii titles we've seen in the past, it's still hard to recommend."

NintendoEverything 3DS Hardware Review
"The name, “Nintendo 3DS”, is fitting considering that the systems
biggest selling point is its stereoscopic 3D top screen without the need
for 3D glasses. This means that, similar to movies like Avatar and Up,
we can see depth to the images displayed whether we’re viewing the 3D
pictures that the system can take, playing 3D games, watching 3D videos,
or just browsing through the 3D menu screens. And yes, you heard me
right—you don’t need 3D glasses or any special equipment to see this
effect."

iNintendo.net Pilotwings Resort (3DS) Review
"Pilotwings Resort has very nice looking visuals that fall in line
with the "Wii" series of games. Wuhu Island isn't extremely detailed,
but the game looks good enough to make it worth flying in Free Flight
mode during the sunset. With the 3D slider turned on, Pilotwings Resort
gives players an amazing sense of depth, allowing them to properly judge
the distance between their aircraft and obstacles in the sky. The game
looks very beautiful when simply flying around when the 3D is turned on,
and while there are some ghosting issues here and there, the 3D really
adds to the overall visual quality of the title."

Can you Walk Into a Retailer and Get a Nintendo 3DS?
GameInformer did a small study, if you will, contacting 25 retailers across 25 states. Retailers that were included in this 3DS hunt were: Walmart, Best Buy, Gamestop, Kmart & Target. The question being what is the availability of the 3DS. Three of those 25 stores were completely sold out, while the others had 4-10 units, while some had 20 or more. So, the answer to the above question would be that, yes, you have a good chance at securing a 3DS if you walk into most retailers.

Capcom Sends out First North America SpotPass Notification Via Super Street Fighter IV

Below you can read the message Capcom sent to SSFIV owners:

Strange Nintendo Patent Surfaces

These images are from a patent filed by Nintendo for what looks like a Motorcycle/Jet Ski game. It does show off a unique control scheme consisting of the balance board and Wii Remote + Nunchuck combo. There isn't a lot of information floating around about a possible game using these ideas and it may never come to fruition. Siliconera has a great article showcasing more images from the patent and some explanations as well. It's worth a read if you're interest in that kind of thing.

Splinter Cell 3D Review
Nintendo Life Splinter Cell 3D Review
"Visually, the developers have done an adequate job. It’s early days for the 3DS in terms of understanding it’s graphical power, but aside from some blurry environment textures this game looks reasonable. The 3D effect does add to the immersion, with a decent sense of depth that is pleasing on the eye. One point to bear in mind is that this game is dark, which makes sense, but you’ll have difficulty seeing what you’re doing if playing in a bright area. We thought it would have been humorous to see Sam trip over occasionally as he stalks around in the dark, but sadly it never happened. Sam does have "Fusion Vision" goggles for seeing in dimly lit areas, with outlines of enemies and items in white. You’ll need these goggles a lot."

iNintendo.net Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition Review
"The appeal to this version of SSFIV is obviously the 3D effect made
possible by Nintendo's 3DS. While cut-scenes and intro movies aren't in
3D – which is very strange – every menu and battle is. For menus,
selection options are presented on the foreground, while anything in the
background such as images or models appear deeper into the screen.
Battles are absolutely gorgeous in 3D, as character models are in the
front of the screen, and stage backgrounds go deeper into the screen.
The effect is so authentic that I've caught myself staring at my
character's model several times, getting lost in the immersion that
glasses-free 3D creates. The best part about it is that out of the
multiple hours of SSFIV3D I've played, I have never once experienced eye
fatigue or soreness. I've even played for several hours straight, and I
always keep the 3D slider on full blast with the game. It's absolutely
amazing. Some sacrifices had to be made to maintain a stable frame rate,
however. In the HD versions of the game, stage backgrounds are
animated, and pedestrians and animals in the background can even react
to things going on in the battle. With SSFIV3D, backgrounds are
completely static; however, with 3D on, the depth of objects in the
background really make players feel like they're right in front of the
action. The frame rate never slows down from its stable 60 frames per
second with 3D off and 30 frames per second with 3D on."

Nintendo 3DS Is Causing Some Headaches, Nintendo Responds
If played for too long, the Nintendo 3DS can literally cause minor headaches for some people. It seems that it's only a matter of taking a break and letting your eyes rest if you feel any strain. Furthermore, Nintendo UK Representative, Robert Saunders has released a statement about the potential symptoms:
""We have shown Nintendo 3DS at multiple events around the world to literally hundreds of thousands of people and have received very few negative comments. As with anything that requires focus, from reading to staring at a computer screen, taking breaks frequent breaks is always recommended.
When viewing any kind of 3D images (TV, movies etc.), some people might experience minor discomfort. The effects are short term and have no lasting effect, in fact most players can continue after taking a short break. The Nintendo 3D was designed with a 3D depth slider that lets users adjust the 3D effect to a level that suits them for optimum enjoyment."
So taking a break can alleviate any headaches/other symptoms you may be experiencing when using the 3DS. It also seems that you may try adjusting the 3D Depth Slider to find a level of 3D that's comfortable for you to use.

The Sims 3
"Of all thirteen 3DS launch games, The Sims 3 was the only one we weren't sent for review before it was released. It's almost as if someone didn't want us to play it and find out how abysmal it is. It's almost an achievement that EA has made a 3DS version of a game that's not only worse than the Wii version, but the DS version too."

Resident Evil The Mecenaries 3D Dated and Rated by the BBFC
Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D has been rated by the British Board of Film Classification. It received a '15' rating and its noted that the game contains strong bloody violence, I think that was a given. However, it's also interesting to note that a release date of June 17, 2011 was also given. This date is for the Europe region only, but isn't confirmed by Capcom themselves. Captivate is about 2 weeks away and we could possibly learn more about the release date then.

Nintendo 3DS Black Screen Errors Haunting Numerous Titles
As I previously reported, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars has been causing some gamers a black screen of death error. However, GoNintendo reports that its affecting more than just that game, among the affected bunch included Super Monkey Ball 3D, Rayman 3D and others. It also gets a little weirder, this seems to be an issue solely affecting North America units. The Japan launch didn't seem to have this issue, and European gamers are reporting no known issues yet. Again, if you are encountering this issue, send an e-mail to park(at)playnintendo(dot)ca (replace with @ and .) with the following details to let us know:

Asphalt 3D Review
Nintendo Life, Asphalt 3D
"Once you’re behind the wheel, cracks start to appear. The game engine isn’t up to the task at hand, with regular frame rate drops at hairy moments whether the 3D is on or off. There’s also some prominent pop-up of scenery on many courses, something that jolts you out of the game, particularly when viewed in 3D. There’s a nice graphical effect when you trigger a full nitro boost, but otherwise the graphical side of things isn’t up to snuff."

Nintendo 3DS Encountering Black Screen Errors
Some gamers have been encountering a Black Screen Error (Or Black Screen of Death if you prefer) when playing Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars on their Aqua Blue 3DS. Keep in mind that this isn't a large issue, but it is one that is affecting a small group of gamers. Below is the image that you will see when the error occurs:
Again, it isn't an issue that is affecting everyone, but if you are experiencing this issue send a e-mail to parko(at)playnintendo(dot)ca to let me know, or post about it in the comments.
