Flipper 2: Flush the Goldfish Trailer (DSiWare)

Eiji Aonuma Reveals Lots of Skyward Sword Details

All of this info comes from an interview with Mr. Aonuma in the most recent issue of Famitsu:

Zelda's Role

She's not a princess this time, which is something I'll pretty much have to put forth right now in order to talk about this title. She's a childhood friend, but she goes away in the midst of the game and it's Link's job to search for her.
Link's Classmates

This game's plot is something like a school drama, you could say. The flying sequence at the E3 demo is Link competing against his classmates. One of them looks kind of a like a bad guy, as you saw, and he shows up in other ways in the game too, since he has a major thing for Zelda.

GameStop Taketh then Giveth Back

OK, by now I'm sure you've all heard about the issue surrounding Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and its inability to reset game data. Personally, I think it's an incredibly stupid idea, and so do tons of fans over at Amazon. Well, when GameStop first discovered Capcom's idiocy they decided that allowing trade-ins for this game would be pointless, because second hand owners wouldn't be able to play the game in full. I would have to agree. This defeats the purpose of buying games in general. What do you generally do when you play a game? You start from the beginning and play to the end, so GameStop's stance on pre-owned sales is actually quite acceptable.

However, GameStop has now decided that it would give us back the opportunity to trade-in the game. Why? I guess it's because some fans would want to trade-in the game when they're done then use that cash/credit towards another game, as per normal. GameStop is catering to the fan that practices this on a regular basis, which is fine, but they are inevitably screwing the other customer, the one that buys pre-owned game for whatever reasons.

IGN Jumps the Gun on Nintendo's Operation Rainfall Statement

Looks like @RichIGN jumped the gun by saying Nintendo would address Operation Rainfall today. Well, it still seems like the info is coming, just not quite yet. @RichIGN gave us more info through Twitter after it became apparent that Nintendo wasn't saying anything today:
Might have been a bit optimistic in hearing statement from Nintendo today. Should still happen but... it's getting late. Patience!
If I don't get it in the next hour or so, I'm thinking it doesn't arrive until tomorrow or even Wednesday.
Eh just give it time. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Wednesday. Shows they're giving it thought though, which is good.
Not worth staying up. Just stay tuned. =P
So, I guess the best thing to do now is just wait. I'll be following up on this story as more information is revealed.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Violent Games Law

Video Games were awarded the opportunity to be treated like other forms of expression (movies, books, etc.) in the United States. In a vote of 7-2, the majority had this to say about video games:
"Like the protected books, plays, and movies that preceded them, video games communicate ideas-and even social messages-through many familiar literary devices (such as characters, dialogue, plot, and music) and through features distinctive to the medium (such as the player's interaction with the virtual world). That suffices to confer First Amendment protection. Under our Constitution, "esthetic and moral judgments about art and literature . . . are for the individual to make, not for the Government to decree, even with the mandate or approval of a majority."

Capcom Entertaining the Idea of Bringing the Resident Evil Series to Wii U

Capcom is showing strong interest in the Nintendo 3DS, and has showed strong interest in past Nintendo consoles, especially with its Resident Evil series. Save for Resident Evil 5, the entire main series can be found on the Nintendo Gamecube, so a Resident Evil title for the Wii U isn't outside the realm of possibility. Raccoon City producer, Masachika Kawata recently expressed his desire to bring Resident Evil to the Wii U:
"Whether or not we actually will develop a Resident Evil title for Wii U, we'll put that aside as obviously I don't know yet. But for me personally, I'd love to do just that. It's a very, very interesting piece of hardware. Whenever I see new game machines and their new possibilities get into my head, the ideas just start flowing. I'd absolutely love to make a Resident Evil on it. I really love the idea of being able to play the game even if my wife or my kids come and steal the TV. That's great, brilliant."
Of course this doesn't confirm anything, but it is good to know that the Wii U has sparked new ideas over at Capcom.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Won't Let You Reset Save Files

TinyCartridge has reported that Capcom is not allowing users to reset their saved game files on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Capcom may be using this feature as a way to discourage trade-ins. Gamers that pick up a used copy of this game will not be able to wipe the data and start from the beginning. Used copies of the game are also being bought for a very low price of $6 at used game retailers.

Is this a good way to discourage pre-owned sales? I'm not sure if it is to be honest. I know that I like to start with a clean slate when I pick up a used game. There are also times when I like to reset my save data and start over from the beginning! I just hope that this feature doesn't discourage hardcore gamers from picking up the title.

Xenoblade Hits #1 in Amazon.com Bestsellers

Xenoblade Chronicles, also known as Monado: Beginning of the World when first announced, has now reached the #1 spot in Amazon.com's Bestsellers list. Just yesterday, Operation Rainfall, a campaign to get Nintendo of America to bring Xenoblade Chronicles to North America, began. One of the ideas proposed is for interested North American gamers to start pre-ordering Monado: Beginning of the World. Monado being the name used by Nintendo for the North America audience.

Fans have continued to pre-order the game until it finally hit the #1 spot in the Video Games category. This is quite the achievement, but will Nintendo respond? Obviously they aren't required to do anything, but at the very least, Nintendo could acknowledge our statement.

Critically Acclaimed Action RPG from CyberConnect2 and Namco Bandai Games Headed Stateside on Nintendo DS

Torrance, Calif., (June 24, 2011) - XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, today announced a partnership with Namco Bandai Games that will bring the highly-acclaimed Action RPG title Solatorobo: Red the Hunter to North America on the Nintendo DS™ handheld system. Developed by celebrated Japanese game studio CyberConnect2, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (also known as Solatorobo: And Then to CODA) is viewed by many as the spiritual successor to the classic RPG adventure, Tail Concerto, which drew praise in the late 1990s for its anime-style artistic elements and distinctive anthropomorphic animal characters, traits which are shared by Solatorobo. Under the exclusive agreement, XSEED Games will have sole publishing rights to Solatorobo: Red the Hunter in North America when it releases this fall on Nintendo DS.

Valve Showing Interest in Wii U

Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve, talked about the companies interest in bringing stuff to the Wii U earlier this week at New York's Games for Change Festival.
“Wii U seems to be a lot more powerful than the previous generation. It sort of fits better into the scalability in terms of graphics performance and CPU performance, so I think it’ll be a lot easier for us to fit it into our scalability model.”
Being a Nintendo fan, you may have also noticed that Valve hasn't released anything for Nintendo consoles. However, it's not because of a lack of love!
“We’ve always loved Nintendo. Now it’s a lot easier to look at Wii U and have it fit within that framework.”

Play Nintendo will be reviewing Wii Play Motion Shortly! + 3DS Note & Incoming Contest

I have obtained a copy of Wii Play Motion and it should be here within a few days. That means I will be reviewing the game really soon! I'll post again when the game reaches me and give you an idea of when the review will drop.

You may have noticed that Play Nintendo doesn't offer 3DS reviews. There's a good explanation for that, I don't own a 3DS! It's outside of my affordability at the moment, but I will be posting some eBay auctions here in an attempt to garner some money towards the purchase of a 3DS. I really want to provide Nintendo fans with 3DS content as I feel it would really add a lot of value to the site. I may consider posting ads and donate button if Play Nintendo fans wanted to help me reach my goal a little faster!

I also wanted to thank Play Nintendo readers for coming back day after day, I know that there is a small group of you that continue to come back and I really appreciate the support. To show my thanks to the readers, I want to give something back. I have been waiting for a certain SNES (Final Fantasy III) game to drop on the Virtual Console to have a contest, but I think waiting for that game will delay the contest as I have wanted to have do this weeks ago. I will be giving away one SNES/NES Virtual Console game of your choice very shortly, stay tuned for details! It's not a big prize, but I'd like to give back as soon as possible!!

If you have any feedback/tips/suggestions or simply want to drop me a message you can leave a comment below, Follow me on Twitter, or send me an e-mail to parko(at)playnintendo.ca . I will respond if you contact me!

Wii U Controller will Browse the Internet

Shigeru Miyamoto let loose some details on being able to use the Wii U controller as an internet browser in an interview with Kotaku. Users will be able to surf the internet on the controller, and then stream things of interest to the TV. He says it can be used to surf the web separate from the console and then share things with others on the TV. It's a neat little concept, and it was briefly shown in the above Wii U trailer.

Miyamoto Confirms that Zelda HD is in development for Wii U

During Nintendo's E3 conference this year, we got our first glimpse of what a Zelda HD would look like on the Wii U console. At the time Nintendo kept quiet on details for a Zelda HD, but now it seems that Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that a Zelda HD is definitely in development:
“This is an HD system, our first HD system, and we want to create a real HD Zelda game for it. You will see a lot of these in-depth and deep experiences in terms of visual style. You will also see some play styles that are fun and interesting because of the play structure.”

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Includes new Musical Gameplay Elements

Much like Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, Skyward Sword is going to include some musical gameplay elements. What these new musical elements might be remains to be seen, but their inclusion has been confirmed by Nintendo composer Koji Kondo:
"Our next title, Skyward Sword, also has a wide variety of impressive songs, and it has new musical gameplay elements."
Fans have noticed in trailers that Link will obtain a Harp sometime in the game, however its significance isn't known.

Kirby TV Channel for your Wii in Europe and Australia

Kirby TV Channel will be available in the following regions:

Play Nintendo Updates Update

You may have noticed that there haven't been as many updates on the site as of late. Well, that's because not a lot has really surfaced since E3. Almost every thing I posted today was related to Zelda, save for a Cave Story 3D trailer and some Wii U info. I've also started to lessen the amount of he said/she said interview stuff as most of it is speculation. I will still run some rumor and speculation stuff, but will focus mainly on the most credible stuff.

As for my memories of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, they are still coming. But with all the Zelda news and reviews being shoved down your throat, I'd rather delay them a day or two. Follow me on Twitter to keep up to date with Play Nintendo content!

EB Australia has Skyward Sword Limited Edition Listing

EB Games in Australia has recently posted a listing that points to a Limited Edition of Skyward Sword. Fans are already speculating that this could possibly be related to the Gold Wii Remote promised to fans at E3. I think that would be cool, but I'd also like to see Skyward Sword get the Metroid Prime Trilogy treatment. I really dig the steel case and the cool art book, not to mention Skyward Sword's graphical style practically begs for a cool art book.

At the moment I'm going to treat this as a rumor. More details concerning the Gold Wii Remote are bound to surface closer to release.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Soundtrack Still Available, But its now First Come First Serve

Fans were given the chance to register their copy of OOT 3D at Club Nintendo and receive a copy of the Legend of Zelda: OOT 3D soundtrack. While fans that registered before last night's deadline will definitely receive a soundtrack, other fans still have a chance to get the CD, but it's now a first come, first serve basis. So, if you haven't registered get over there quick to ensure you get a copy.

Here's the official statement:
Thank you for your interest in this offer. All members who registered the game by 12:01am Pacific Time Tuesday, June 21, 2011 will receive the CD. Beyond this date, we will continue to send CDs to registrants on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last.

WayForward Says Shantae GBC May Come to 3DS VC

Now that Nintendo has the eShop running in full force, fans are wondering what Game Boy/Game Boy Color games will actually make the cut. Shantae for the Game Boy Color has a pretty big cult following and it's not surprising to see fans ask WayForward if the game will come to the 3DS Virtual Console.

Well, I've got good news for Shantae fans. WayForward linked to a Facebook post today on Twitter and it reveals that they are actively pursuing the re-release of Shantae on the 3DS Virtual Console.

Miyamoto Says Wii U Controller was Actually Conceptualized before iPad Release

Miyamoto was asked by Gamespot if the Wii U controller was influence by Apple's iPad, but in fact Miyamoto revealed that the Wii U controller was though of before iPad's release:
GS: At the last E3, you talked a little bit about the iPad, and we were wondering if that influenced the direction that things are going in now, such as the shape of the controller?

SM: Actually it was coincidental, because even at this point last year at E3, we had done a lot of work on this, and it was pretty far along, and we had been working on the concept for several years. And so we felt it was kind of a funny coincidence that, while we had been working on this, all of a sudden right as we're getting ready to bring it to the public, there's this tablet boom.

Ocarina of Time 3D Changes

Zelda Dungeon has posted a few changes they noticed in Ocarina of Time 3D. However, there seems to be a lot of these little changes. One of the changes that they highlight is the fact that link can climb faster now, which makes those sections less monotonous. Check out this change, and others in full detail at Zelda Dungeon.

After looking through the comments, user Fierce highlighted an even bigger list of changes, you can find them below:
  • You walk faster with the iron boots than you did in the old version, and you move 100% speed underwater with them on.
  • Fishing is now easier.
  • You cannot get the Heart Piece in lakeside laboratory without golden scale.
  • Golden scale early glitch fixed
  • No bomb jumping
  • No infinite sword
  • No sword-less link
  • Using the sword down chop on a wall no longer stops fall damage
  • Music fixed in Fire Temple

Ninja Gaiden to be the first Retro Game Master Episode

Just last week, Kotaku announced that they will begin airing episodes of Japanese video game show, Game Center CX, in the US. Under its localized name, Retro Game Master, the first episode will see Arino challenge Ninja Gaiden!

Ninja Gaiden was aired during Season 4 of the show in Japan, but will be the first episode of the American version. My guess is that this means that Retro Game Master episodes can come from any season, at any time. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but I'm sure that some Game Center CX loyalists would prefer them to follow in chronological order.

Regardless, here is the trailer for the first episode:

Do you see 2K and Take-Two producing more titles for Nintendo’s Wii U console? Are Rockstar games going to come out for that?

They support the platform and they were pretty excited about what they have seen. Sakurai Discusses New Character Magnus, Online, and more Kid Icarus: Uprising Details

On Kid Icarus Newcomer Magnus
“The game is set up in chapters – going from chapter one to chapter two to chapter three, and Magnus is a guest character that appears in chapter two. So it’s very near the beginning of the game that he appears, and what we’ve done is we’ve set up this sort of ironic situation where you’re near the beginning of the game, but you’re set against what is made to be this ‘breaking the fourth wall’ final RPG boss type of character. So you discover that Magnus has some background history with this final boss character. Magnus is presented in the game as being the strongest of the strongest among humans, and all the humans have been fighting against the underworld and being defeated, but here’s this one character who’s stronger than everybody else. And when paired with Pit in the game, it’s a good way for the player to get a sense comparatively, of just how powerful Pit is too. And also to explore Pit’s character and personality by talking with another character in the game.”

“We’re still in the middle of looking at the options for the wireless multiplayer mode, and I would say it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility that we might end up not being able to implement the Wi-Fi online mode, but we’re moving forward in development with the understanding and intention of making that a feature.”

Ocarina of Time 3D Launch Event at Nintendo World

Play Nintendo Remembers Ocarina of Time

What comes to mind when you think of Ocarina of Time? I'm sure many of you will say "change." It changed the way Zelda games were played, but also innovated third-person action adventures. For me personally it also represented change. Much like Link, I was about to embark on a new journey of my own. A few days before Ocarina of Time was released, I moved out of my childhood home. As a 12 year old, it was both an exciting and scary time.

Ocarina of Time Weekend! First up: Artificial Fear's OOT Rock Remixes

As most of you know, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D releases on Sunday! So, I thought I would give a little love to one of the greatest games, and definitely the greatest franchise of all time. We all know that Ocarina of Time has a stellar soundtrack and I ran across some rock remixes that I feel is extraordinary. I ran across these on YouTube one day and ever since I've been dying to share them with fellow Nintendo fans! Below is a playlist of all the OOT remixes, my personal favorite being Gerudo Valley!

He also has Majora's Mask and Final Fantasy remixes, so go check out his stuff. Tomorrow, I will be posting a Top 10 list with an Ocarina of Time theme. Sunday, I plan to just blog about my personal experience with the game. It won't be a review, more like a nostalgic look at my first time playing through the game. In the meantime check out these remixes as they are fantastic!

ONM: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Review

"The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time 3D is a life-changing game, an experience that defines the medium it inhabits and if you have the chance to experience it afresh, it will even better."

Register Zelda: OOT 3D Now to get your Free Ocarina of Time 3D Soundtrack

Nintendo announced at E3 that fans could register their copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D to receive a free soundtrack to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. Well, it looks like Nintendo has opened the promotion over at Club Nintendo. You should register as fast as possible because these are only available in a limited quantity. North America fans have to wait until Sunday, but some retailers may have the game out early! Ocarina of Time 3D is also out in Europe today, so our gamers across the pond can get in on the action now.

No Legend of Zelda "Super Mario All-Stars" Collectors Pack for 25th Zelda Anniversary

Last year Nintendo re-released Super Mario All-Stars on the Wii to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the plumber in red. However, it looks like Nintendo won't be doing the same thing for The Legend of Zelda 25h Anniversary. Mr. Iwata and Miyamoto revealed in a recent Iwata Asks feature that releasing a Zelda: Collector's Disc just isn't the Nintendo way.

We do know that Skyward Sword, OOT 3D, symphony concerts, free Four Swords etc. are releasing to celebrate this milestone for the series. I expected Nintendo to re-release the four game Zelda: Collector's Edition disc that was released for the Gamecube, but I guess that won't happen.

Animal Crossing 3DS to Offer New Networking Experiences

Animal Crossing creator, Katsuya Eguchi, promises fans that new networking experiences will be included in the new 3DS game:
“To those Animal Crossing fans, I just would like them to know that there’s progress and we should be able to offer a new download movie soon. As for features and specs of the game, I can’t go into too much detail, but players will be able to arrange their furniture the way they like, and we’ll be offering new networking experiences.”

Mario and Dragon Quest Roster for Fortune Street (Wii)

North America is getting its first taste of Fortune Street this holiday season, but what exactly is fortune street you ask? Well, Fortune Street (Itadaki Street) is a popular Japanese video game in which the objective is to become the richest by making investments, playing the stock market, etc. and it plays like a board game. Its appeal is most obviously found in the inclusion of certain members of the Mushroom Kingdom and Dragon Quest characters.

Wii U Footage shown at E3 was actually PS3 Video, Wii U Dev Kits Underclocked being the Reason

All that Wii U gameplay footage you saw at E3 wasn't actually Wii U. No, it was actually video taken from PS3/360 games of the same name. If the specs released the other day were true, and the console is at least 50% more powerful than the PS3, why didn't Nintendo show Wii U video?

Well, reports are now saying that the Wii U development kits that were received by third party companies were actually "underclocked." Essentially this means that they are working on underpowered technology at the moment. Third parties even had some footage to show at E3, but Nintendo stepped in last minute and said that what they currently had wasn't much stronger than graphics offered by the PS3/360, so Nintendo used PS3/360 footage instead.

However, the bright side of this is that if what devs are working on now is underclocked, and that it's possible to render graphics on par with PS3/360, then we can be certain Wii U will be more powerful than both consoles. Having this power will hopefully not put Nintendo far behind the next-gen.

Two Wii U Controllers Possible, But It's Costly Says Iwata

Just a while back it was announced that only one Wii U controller would come with the console at launch, which is normal, but Nintendo also said it wouldn't offer Wii U controllers for sale at retailers. It was then presumed that this meant only one controller could be used.

However, that isn't entirely true, Mr. Iwata himself has told Japanese Business website, Diamond Online, that it is possible to use more than one Wii U controller, but it ups the cost and Nintendo isn't willing to put that on their customers:
"Technically, it is possible for the Wii U to support multiple Wii U Controllers. However, this will result in a "considerable" price increase. "
So, would you be willing to chuck around some extra cash to buy a second Wii U controller? I know I'd be willing if the price was right, and of course the software was there to support such a purchase. We can technically still play multiplayer using Wii Remotes , but the experience just isn't the same.

SEGA bringing HD Sonic The Hedgehog Games to Wii U

We know that Sonic Generations isn't coming to Wii, and hasn't been announced for Wii U, but it would be silly to think that SEGA would leave Sonic out of the Wii U mix. SEGA West president Mike Hayes pretty much confirmed that Sonic HD on Wii U is a go:
"That controller is absolutely brilliant and we have to think of innovative ways to use it. We're doing high definition Sonics, we're doing obviously Aliens: Colonial Marines, so you can bring them across, and that's relatively low cost, which is good news. Then you spend your money on how do you use that controller effectively to make it unique and differentiate it."

Conduit 2 June 15 Patch Details

  1. Removes the ASE Basketball promotion
  2. Removes Double XP
  3. Fixes the joining-the-wrong map bug, which caused a number of issues many of you have noted
  4. Fixes the headset bug – headsets should work with rivals and friends now. Let us know if this doesn't work
  5. Blinding Powder - The attacker gets briefly blinded as well – Due to the numerous complaints about the over-poweredness of Blinding Powder, we wanted to try something to reduce its effectiveness. We hope that this doesn't completely negate the use of the power, but if so, we're not afraid to revisit it.
  6. Deatomizer infinite ammo exploit is fixed – Thanks for getting this figured out, guys!

SEGA Releasing Sonic 20th Anniversary Figurine

These figurines are being made to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Sonic The Hedgehog. They aren't going to be sold anywhere particular, but SEGA says they may pop up from time to time, but not many details are being released on how to nab one. Oh, and they are limited edition with only 1000 being made.
