Wizorb is now available on X-Box Live Indie Games

A story about an X-Box Live game on a Nintendo website you say? Well, yes I want to tell those of you with an Xbox about this game. PIXELTAO was one of the first websites to link back to me after I reviewed their very NES-like Ninja Senki, which happens to be a pretty amazing, kick you in the nuts platformer, and it's time that I return the favour.

Wizorb, developed by the newly formed Tribute Games/(PIXELTAO) looks like a pretty amazing and innovative breakout style game. It released today and is only 240 Microsoft Points for crying out loud, that's reason enough to support a very innovative and solid Indie developer. I will unfortunately have to wait for the PC version before playing, but I ask those who have an X-box to log on and at least try the free demo. If you need some more convincing here is the latest trailer for the game:

Very tiny update for everyone. I have removed one of the sidebars from the site as I feel it was making things a little crowded. I think the current setup is much better, especially for reading reviews and articles alike.

SPOILER ALERT

What did Nintendo.com look like in 1996 and beyond?

I've been noticing a few articles popping up that showcase websites from years and years ago. I'm talking back when the Internet was only accessed by most of us through our school or public library. How is this achieved? Well, it seems that an archive of the Internet exists through a website called the Wayback Machine. So, being the nerd that I am the first thing I searched for was nintendo.com. The wave of nostalgia that hit me was something I wasn't ready to experience.

Nintendo.com in '96

I immediately recognize the Super Mario 64 splash page, do you? I remember surfing to this page at school and at the library to find all kinds of Nintendo awesomeness. You see, rumblings of a certain Zelda 64 were starting up around this time, and finding screenshots and information for the game was extremely easy during the early era of Nintendo on the Internet.Nintendo Power being a good choice as well, but let's face it, the Internet was much more exciting than a magazine back then.

Click to see a larger image of Nintendo in all its 1996 Glory
I forgot how primitive the Internet was back in those days, but one thing surely shone through, and that was substance. Nintendo.com had tons of info on upcoming games and technology including the latest screenshots from the latest Space World show. If you were a Nintendo fan, you were caught surfing this webpage during your limited school Internet time.

Fossil Fighters Champions Trailer

Professor Layton and the Last Specter Fact Sheet

Professor Layton is Back with a Puzzling Prequel

This fourth installment of the Professor Layton puzzle adventure series begins a new trilogy that is a prequel to the original games. Three years before the events in the Professor Layton and the Curious Village™ game, Professor Layton receives a letter from his old schoolmate Clark Triton, telling him that a “mysterious giant” is destroying his town.” The professor heads to the town of Misthallery to investigate, and is joined by Emmy, his new assistant. What is the meaning of all the destruction, and is it related to the village’s folklore legend of a “specter”? The unfolding story details how Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke, met.

FEATURES:
• Players move the mysterious story forward by solving a multitude of brain teasers, riddles and conundrums. This game contains more puzzles than any in the series so far.
• Free downloadable puzzles will be available weekly after the game’s launch (broadband Internet connection required)
• Players will get a bonus role-playing game called Professor Layton’s London Life™ that contains 100 hours of additional content.
• In the bonus role-playing game Professor Layton’s London Life™, the player’s character lives in “Little London” with Professor Layton and a number of characters from the series. Players can customize their character with special clothing and collect items and furniture. Some of these help the player’s character to enter certain areas of the city or perform tasks that help out the townspeople.

Fossil Fighters Champions

A Bone to Pick

In this dino-tastic adventure, players get some hands-on time to hunt and clean fossils, and revive and battle vivosaurs. A fossil park is hosting a large-scale tournament in which competitors enter vivosaurs created from dinosaur fossils into competition. Fossil Fighters from all over the world battle their vivosaurs against one another to find out who will be crowned champion.

FEATURES:
• Players excavate and clean fossils. New giant fossil rocks (containing complete dinosaur fossils) and odd fossil rocks (which are two-sided) add to the fun of the cleaning process.
• Once the fossils have been cleaned, they can be revived into vivosaurs, which players can then arrange into teams for battles. The better the fossils have been cleaned, the more powerful the vivosaurs are in battle.
• Strategy is key in battles. Players must put forth teams of three vivosaurs, then rotate their positions to maximize their power advantage over opponents.
• New “super evolver” vivosaurs evolve into new forms with the help of gold fossils.
• Players can compete in matchmaking battles or upload their best team to see how it fares against others. Players can also download additional vivosaurs and events.
• Using DS Download Play, one player who has the game can link up wirelessly with up to three other Nintendo DS owners within range and cooperate to expertly clean fossils together.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Fact Sheet Brings New Information

 A Link to the Future

One of the most storied franchises in history soars to new heights. The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword shakes up the tried-and-true adventure game formula and marks a turning point for the franchise. The introduction of full motion controls enabled by Wii MotionPlus™ technology synchronizes player movements with Link’s actions while offering the most intuitive play control of any game in the series to date.

FEATURES:
• The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword boasts the most realistic sword combat of any game to date, turning every encounter into a challenge of both brains and brawn. Wii MotionPlus technology accurately translates the angle of every sword slice, effectively putting Link’s blade in the player’s hand. Analyzing enemy attack and defense tendencies and counteracting with precise swings of the sword provide a satisfying experience that blends puzzle-solving with a new and distinctly unique combat system.
• Explore a massive, multilayered world that seamlessly blends soaring exploration in a sea of clouds with intense ground-based adventuring that blurs the line between the main world and traditional Zelda dungeons. Link™ soars through the skies on the back of a noble bird and dives beneath the clouds to the continent below in an epic quest that lays the foundation for the events in the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
• Prepare for intense puzzle-solving as only The Legend of Zelda games can deliver. Exploration of the forests, volcanoes and deserts requires players to think on their feet as they solve puzzles, overcome obstacles and escape deadly traps. Once they find their way to each dungeon, they are confronted by even more puzzles guarded by fiendish enemies.
• The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword redefines the traditional Zelda framework and introduces an arsenal of items, upgrades and rewards unlike any game in the franchise to date. The adventure guides players into, out of and back to dungeons and areas they’ve already completed. Along the way, Link gathers a massive inventory of peculiar items and resources that can be used to upgrade many of his weapons and equipment.
• A new weapon upgrade system allows players to gather raw materials from throughout hyrule that can be used to upgrade weapons, equipment and items, or create entirely new ones from scratch.
• The game also will feature a boss challenge mode and, for players who need assistance, optional hint movies to help them along.
• A special limited-edition The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword bundle containing the game and a gold* Wii Remote™ Plus controller will be available when the game launches on Nov. 20.
• Every copy in the initial production of the game will come packaged with a special music CD featuring orchestral arrangements of select songs that will be performed at The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert.

Fortune Street Fact Sheet

Get on Board, Corner the Market and Make a Fortune

Players become familiar characters from the Nintendo and DRAGON QUEST universes in a board game that challenges them to play the real estate and stock markets wisely to win. Players race around the board trying to accumulate wealth and hit a target value while buying, selling and trading property with friends and family to see who can be the first to cash out. What appears at first to be a simple property-buying board game offers multiple levels of money-maximizing opportunity.

FEATURES:
• Players move around one of more than 15 boards, buying shops to build their portfolios and collecting symbols they can cash in at the bank to earn more gold to invest. It takes money to make money, so racing around the board may not be the best strategy.
• To capitalize on their monetary gains, players can make investments, play the stock market, purchase shops and collect shopping fees. When players buy multiple shops adjacent to one another, the property value grows and both shops level up. Other players who land on those squares have to pay an increased shopping fee.
• Players can choose to play as a variety of Mushroom Kingdom characters, as DRAGON QUEST characters or even as their own Mii™ characters.
• More than 15 game boards with different shapes and layouts are available to provide endless replay value.
• The beginner setting called “easy rules” helps newcomers learn the basics, while the more advanced, “standard rules” introduces more challenges, deeper strategy options and the ability to play the virtual stock market.
• Play against friends with the Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection.
• The franchise has been a hit in Japan, and this marks its first appearance in North America.

Mario Kart 7 Fact Sheet

A New Dimension of Kart Racing

The newest installment of the fan-favorite Mario Kart™ franchise brings Mushroom Kingdom racing fun into glorious 3D. For the first time, drivers explore new competitive kart possibilities, such as soaring through the skies or plunging into the depths of the sea. New courses, strategic new abilities and customizable karts bring the racing excitement to new heights.

FEATURES:
• The Mario Kart franchise continues to evolve. New kart abilities add to the wild fun that the games are known for. On big jumps, a kart deploys a wing to let it glide over the track shortcut. When underwater, a propeller pops out to help the kart cruise across the sea floor.
• Players can show their own style by customizing their vehicles with accessories that give them a competitive advantage. For instance, giant tires help a kart drive off-road, while smaller tires accelerate quickly on paved courses.
• People can choose to race as one of their favorite Mushroom Kingdom characters or even as their Mii™ character.
• New courses take players on wild rides over mountains, on city streets and through a dusty desert. Nintendo fans will recognize new courses on Wuhu Island and in the jungles from Donkey Kong Country™ Returns.
• The game supports both SpotPass™ and StreetPass™ features.
• Players can compete in local wireless matches or online over a broadband Internet connection.

• 3D visuals make it easier for players to judge the depths and distances in their environments. Players can more accurately judge the jump to the next platform or how far Mario is from a question block.
• New and familiar abilities add unique game-play strategies to the adventure. Mario can perform a rolling somersault attack or run fast with a dash move.
• The Circle Pad gives players complete control to confidently move Mario through fun and challenging environments.

• Score Attack is a new mode that allows players to select individual missions that they have unlocked and play for the highest score.

This new installment in the fan-favorite Kirby franchise challenges players to control as many as 10 Kirbys at the same time as they smash through obstacles, defeat enemies and access new areas while adventuring through a series of colorful side-scrolling worlds.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Proves There's Strength in Monsters

New Game for Nintendo DS Systems Lets Players Collect, Connect and Customize Hundreds of Monsters from the DRAGON QUEST Universe
REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 19, 2011 – Now there's a powerful new way to interact with the wild variety of monsters from the fan-favorite DRAGON QUEST® video game series. Launching today for the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held systems, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker™ 2 unleashes an epic adventure in which players can recruit, train and battle with imaginative monsters of all shapes and sizes. First Four Hours of Kirby Mass Attack

Upon opening Kirby Mass Attack earlier today, I immediately went straight for the instruction manual. Yeah, I'm going to start this blog series with a section on instruction manuals. I feel that they are an extremely important factor when setting my mood before beginning a game. Maybe it has something to do with my OCD? Before playing any game I NEED to at least flip through the instruction manual. My initial impressions were: Nintendo still makes a damn good instruction manual and it is in color! So what did I gather from my instruction manual excursion? Excitement. I became even more excited to dig into Kirby Mass Attack simply because Nintendo was willing to offer us a structured and well presented instruction manual.

Of course the next step was to play Kirby Mass Attack. After loading the game, I came face to screen with a great presentation. Kirby Mass Attack, much like its manual, is very colorful and clever in its presentation. Kirbys can be found at every corner. In the options, on the main menu, and later in the game they can be found drumming along to the game's soundtrack. What is pink, adorable and has 20 legs? Kirby Mass Attack. Early on it's easy to see the theme forming for Kirby Mass Attack: 10 Kirbys are better than one.

New Blog Series Incoming: First Four Hours of...

I've been throwing around a couple of ideas for blog posts here on Play Nintendo, and today the idea for this new series came to me. While I usually complete the main story in video games before writing a review, a lot of my opinions are formed in the early hours. I spent four hours with Kirby Mass Attack today, and the game made a great impression on me in a very short period of time, so much of an impression that I just had to talk about the game. Now, a new blog series has formed: "First Four Hours of (game title here)".

Sure, there are tons of blogs that are similar in concept, but I just need to spill the beans on Kirby Mass Attack (and many games to come). I think it may give you the reader an idea of my thoughts on a certain title early during the reviewing process. It may also display some changes in my opinion after seeing more of what any particular game has to offer. OK, I know you get the idea by now and want to hear my thoughts, so let me cut to the main story...

Original Dragon Quest Monsters to Receive 3DS Remake

Square-Enix has announced plans to remake the original Dragon Quest Monsters for the Nintendo 3DS. Yes, the Dragon Quest Monsters from 1998. Most interesting part of this story is the news that Square-Enix will be adding monsters from recent games, as well as new monsters, stories, and even more new additions to the remake.

Not currently planned for the west (well, no announcement as of yet), but it's a possibility, right? A 2012 release is likely for Japan.

Netflix Soon Offering Video Game Rental Service with Newly Formed Qwikster

Netflix has announced that it plans to split its streaming and physical rental services. How do they plan to accomplish this feat? Well, Reed Hastings felt that streaming and physical rentals were two different businesses, and on that merit decided that a new company was needed. Netflix will continue to host the streaming service, but the new Qwikster will focus on the physical side of things.

How is this relevant to gamers? Well, with the newly formed Qwikster will come the opportunity to rent games! That's right, Qwikster will begin to offer video games as choices for your rental needs. The service isn't up and running quite yet, but will be in a few short weeks. You can however, check out the official website. Even if there is nothing really happening yet.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Coming in Early 2012

It has been rumored for quite awhile now, but the man himself has confirmed its delay. Hideo Kojima confirmed at TGS that MGS: Snake Eater 3D would release during the early part of the Winter 2012 season. Hopefully this allows Konami some time to fix some of those issues I keep hearing about; maybe it will now take advantage of the Expansion Slide Pad.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition Detailed

Details for the downloadable The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition has also been release by Nintendo this fine morning. It will only be available for a limited time starting on September 28, 2011, and ending February 20, 2012. DSi and DSi XL owners can download the DSiWare version any time starting September 28 and 3DS owners will have to sign into the eShop sometime during that time period.

Four Swords Anniversary Edition allows four players that have downloaded the game to play together (and it's wireless of course), but Nintendo has also enhanced the product by including a new single-player mode. After beating the main quest gamers will unlock new levels to play through greatly expanding the replay value of the title. If you have been following the news from the 3DS conference of last night you will know that these levels include NES and GB stylized levels.

Best of all, gamers won't pay a single dime because the anniversary edition is FREE!

Mario Kart 7 will come a little later with a December 4 release date. Mario Kart 7 will include an optional first person mode that is controlled using the gyro sensor. On top of that, Nintendo has also decided to include the tricks system found in Mario Kart Wii. Lastly, Nintendo has told us about two new playable drivers for Mario Kart 7. Another batch of info has been leaked from the Game Informer Zelda Issue. Again, some may consider these spoilers, so only read on if you want this info:

More Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Info and Scans Revealed *Spoilers*

Again, this post contains many spoilers, so those of you whom try to avoid this kind of thing it is important that you don't click below. This pile of info and scans come from the Zelda blowout expected in the latest issue of Game Informer. Luckily, Zelda Informer has gotten their hands on some scans that provides us a few tidbits. I will post one scan, but will send you over to Zelda Informer for the rest:

Aonuma Teasing Zelda Fans with Small Bits of Wii U and 3DS Zelda Ideas

OK, Play Nintendo has been avoiding this kind of speculative posting, but since our collective Zelda fever is at an all time high, I think this can be excused:

Aonuma on Wii U Zelda:

"The demo that we showed at E3 was really just more of a rough idea of if all we were to do was to take a Zelda game and put it in HD, this is what it might look like. We’re much more interested in looking at the power of the Wii U system  and seeing how we can take advantage of that power to do things that we haven’t been able to do in a Zelda game before.... One of our goals with [Skyward Sword] is to be the first step in illustrating for people how the Zelda series can change and evolve."
Aonuma on 3DS Zelda:
"It will be a game in which having 3D will mean something."

Some dedicated Zelda fans have discovered that the Skyward Sword box art is hiding a very unique musical secret. If you look closely you can see that there is indeed musical notation hidden in the box art. Zelda fans have also put together a musical rendition that might give us an idea of what the song is supposed to sound like. Check that out below:

A fan has also reversed the song just in case Nintendo was hiding something else away:

STAR FOX 64 3D BARREL ROLLS INTO GLORIOUS 3D ON NINTENDO 3DS

Head-to-Head Multiplayer Mode and New Motion Controls Let Players Enjoy Intergalactic Dogfighting Drama

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 8, 2011 – In the distant corners of the Lylat system, the evil Andross is marshaling his forces to spread chaos, and only one team of flying heroes is up to the task of defeating him. Starting Sept. 9, Nintendo 3DS™ owners can take to the skies as Fox McCloud and his band of flying aces in the Star Fox 64™ 3D game as they soar through multiple worlds to restore order. Sept. 9 also marks the debut of the new Flame Red version of the Nintendo 3DS system, which is available at a suggested retail price of $169.99.

In addition to the full original game, Star Fox 64 3D also includes a new multiplayer mode in which up to four players can compete in an aerial dogfight to see which of them is master of the skies. Up to four Nintendo 3DS owners can compete, even if only one player has a Game Card. This mode also makes use of the Nintendo 3DS inner camera: With this optional feature, as fighters zip across the screen, player's faces are displayed along with their ships. When one player triumphs, his or her image receives a victory crown. At the same time, the winner can relish in the other players' images of defeat.

This Nintendo 64™ classic has been given a complete graphical overhaul. Now players can see 3D depth and distance without the need for special glasses. The game also takes advantage of the built-in gyroscope of the Nintendo 3DS hardware by letting players control their spacecraft by moving the system in any direction. This optional control scheme gives players even more precise control as they navigate asteroid fields and waves of enemy lasers.

"With the launch of Star Fox 64 3D, a hot new hardware color and $169.99 suggested retail price, Nintendo 3DS offers more entertainment variety and value to consumers than ever before," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Through competitive multiplayer modes and intuitive motion controls, Star Fox 64 3D delivers yet another standout game-play experience that is exclusive to Nintendo 3DS owners."

Remember that Nintendo 3DS features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/3ds.

Monster Hunter 3G 3DS Confirmed for Nintendo 3DS

On the heels of the new circle pad attachment, Famitsu has also revealed the first details for the new Monster Hunter 3G 3D game. It is essentially Monster Hunter 3, but it will be an expanded version. It will retain the water elements from the Wii title and will also include local wireless play. Gameplay in the water has been adjusted to also include the touch screen. Tapping the screen will instantly turn your character to face an enemy, ultimately making the battle easier. A beast called the Blakidio will also be in the game.

Japan is slated to get the title at the end of the year. I'm willing to bet that the 3DS version will release stateside in 2012.

Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Peripheral Confirmed

Rumors were running wild about a circle pad attachment for the Nintendo 3DS. Some of you may already know about the rumor, but some may not due to our no rumors policy. However, the attachment is now confirmed. Famitsu released the first image of the attachment and it is quite bulky. The attachment looks like a cradle of sorts and yes the Nintendo 3DS does fit inside. It will add a second circle pad to the device (and a new trigger button), but it looks like a hassle more than an innovation. I'd wait for the inevitable 3DS re-design.

Nintendo has also told ONM that the device is indeed planned for a release, but we have to wait for an official announcement. Gamers are well aware of an upcoming Nintendo conference taking place in Japan on September 13, and an announcement regarding this device is likely.

Nintendo Holding 3DS Conference Next Week

Nintendo is holding a special conference in Japan next week. This conference will put the spotlight on the Nintendo 3DS and will take place in Japan on September 13 (next Tuesday) at 12 P.M. Those of us in North America will be able to get the details sometime on the 12th.

The conference will be streaming live on Ustream as well, so those of you interested will be able to catch it live. I can't make any commitments to cover the event live at the moment, but you can bet I will if I am available.
