NetherRealm Studios bringing DC Universe Fighting Game to Wii U!

Know how I know E3 is around the corner? When a Triple-A fighting game (well, at least AAA in announcement form) from the creators of Mortal Kombat is announced for the Wii U of course. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive have pulled back the curtain on their newest video game; Injustice: Gods Among Us, a fighting game which takes place in the DC Universe.

I hope this means there's hope for a Mortal Kombat game on the Wii U. Hell, I'd even take a port of the latest Mortal Kombat game.

Press Release: Nintendo Reveals Perfect Link and other Fun New Features For Pokemon Conquest

Not sure how I missed this yesterday, but nonetheless here it is in all its glory.

NINTENDO REVEALS PERFECT LINK AND OTHER FUN NEW FEATURES FOR POKÉMON CONQUEST
May 30, 2012
Nintendo has revealed even more details about the new features available in Pokémon Conquest, launching for the Nintendo DS family of systems on June 18. In Pokémon Conquest, players will explore the Ransei region and interact with Pokémon in an entirely new way as they take on the role of a young Warlord who is linked with a Pokémon. Together they must set out to recruit Warrior allies to strengthen their growing kingdom. Developed by TECMO KOEI GAMES Co., Ltd., the game can also be played on the Nintendo 3DS system in 2D mode.

New features include the following:

Perfect Link: Players will have the ability to link to Pokémon they encounter as they conquer the Ransei region. There are three possible grades when players attempt to link with Pokémon: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The medal over a Pokémon will indicate which link level can be achieved. If a player links with a Gold medal Pokémon, that link could potentially be a Perfect Link. A Perfect Link will allow the player to link with that particular Pokémon up to 100 percent. The higher the link percentage, the more powerful the Pokémon becomes.

Spy Hunter Coming to Nintendo 3DS

Any Spy Hunter fans around? Those that may be interested in the franchise will be happy to learn that a new Spy Hunter game will be coming to Nintendo 3DS later this fall! The video doesn't really showcase much, but looks like weaponry will still play a big role.

Heroes of Ruin Delayed until July

Dan from n-Space has shared with Nintendo 3DS owners the unfortunate news of a Heroes of Ruin delay. However, the delay isn't all that bad; those looking forward to the title can now pick it up on July 17th, 2012. Check out the message to fans on the official n-Space Facebook page.

NBA 2K13 Coming to Wii U and Wii

2K Sports has announced that NBA 2K13 will be coming to both the Wii and Wii U consoles. The Wii version will release alongside other versions of the game on October 2, 2012, but the Wii U version is expected to release within the Wii U Launch Window.

Nintendo Selects Pikmin 2 Website Open!

Need a quick refresher on Pikmin 2 before it comes to the Nintendo Selects line? Well, Nintendo has an official website up that will look at the Pikmin, the story, multiplayer and more!

Konami's Pre-E3 2012 Show Details

Konami will be hosting their Pre-E3 show this Thursday at 10:30 P.M. PST/1:30 A.M. EST. This is a little late for me, but I'm going to try and stay awake to tweet along with the event! After all, E3 only comes once a year!

First WWE 13 Trailer (Wii)

Attitude Era themed, breakable environments, and fighting in the crowd? Count me excited for a wrestling game for the first time since Smackdown vs. Raw 2007. The trailer shows the Wii logo, but I'd be willing to bet that it's coming to the Wii U as well.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate Coming to the Nintendo 3DS

I've been waiting for some concrete information to surface before mentioning the new Castlevania 3DS game, and today I can do just that! Nintendo Power has revealed that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate will feature deep combat mechanics with strong and wide ranged attacks, blocking and dodging, grabbing enemies, and secondary weapons. Looks like there will also be light and shadow magic, as well as experience points that can be used to unlock new combos. Overall, sounds pretty good, but how about some screenshots (from Nintendo Power) to finish off this story?

Natsume Reveals Harvest Moon: A New Beginning

Natsume is celebrating 15 years of the fantastic and charming farming simulator, so a new game announcement is the perfect way for fans to celebrate. Harvest Moon: A New Beginning will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS with more information (and screenshots) being revealed June 5, during E3 2012 week. Excited for a new Harvest Moon game? Well, English information should be coming next week, but to hold you over, here is the Japanese trailer!

Nintendo holding a special Software Showcase Stream on June 6

Just one day after what will likely be a monumental E3 event for Nintendo they will be holding another special live stream. On June 6, Nintendo fans can tune into e3.nintendo.com to watch a special Software Showcase straight from the big N themselves. Presumably, we will be seeing a lot of Wii U software during this event, and will likely receive plenty of Wii U controller demonstrations.

Join Play Nintendo for E3 2012 Coverage and Here's our E3 2012 Schedule

OK, we're officially a week away from E3 2012, and you know what that means; an abundance of video game news. I'll only be covering Nintendo news, but I have a feeling there won't be a lack of that. Besides Nintendo themselves broadcasting TWO live streams (more on that in a moment), two other big Wii U players will be holding conferences as well. I plan to cover all four events live! Without further ado, here is my schedule for E3 2012.

May 31/June 1 (Pre-E3)

Konami will be holding an event this on Thursday May 31 at 10:30 P.M. EST/1:30 A.M. EST and there will probably be Nintendo news there. Nintendo Power did reveal a new Castlevania game for the 3DS, so it's possible that we will see a trailer for the game. It is late for me, but I will try to be tweeting out any Nintendo news (make sure to follow Play Nintendo on Twitter) and then posting it here on the blog after the event is over.

June 4th (More Pre-E3 Events that are actually considered E3 Events)

Electronic Arts E3 2012 Conference, 1:00 P.M. PST/4:00 P.M. EST - EA has publicly stated that they will be supporting the Wii U, so it makes sense that they will have some Nintendo news to report at their E3 2012 conference. I will be live tweeting this event much like the Konami event.

Ubisoft E3 2012 Conference, 3:00 P.M. PST/6:00 P.M. EST - Ubisoft made a press release available last week that details their Wii U plans at E3. We will get to see a bunch of Wii U stuff a day before Nintendo's conference which is cool. I will be live tweeting this event just like the Konami and EA events.

After both events I will attempt to post as many Nintendo news stories as possible before getting rest for the two crazy days to come.

June 5 (The day we've been waiting for since E3 2011)

Nintendo E3 2012 Conference, 9:00 A.M. PST/12:00 P.M. EST - I have a live blog ready to go (Cover It Live Service) to cover all the Nintendo news at this year's event. Should be around two hours long.

After Nintendo's event is over, I will post as much news as I possibly can before resting for the next day. After I have most of Nintendo's stuff covered, I will be tweeting some of it out and then search for third party Nintendo news.

June 6 (Surprise Nintendo Software Showcase)

Nintendo has announced today that they will be holding a Software Showcase live stream on June 6 at 6:00 P.M. PST/9:00 P.M. EST. I will be live tweeting this stream.

I'll also be using the rest of the week to post whatever I may have missed from previous days and other third party companies!
--------------------------------------------
That's my schedule for E3 2012! It's going to be a busy week (even busier if I have two reviews to write next week), but it should be a lot of fun for Nintendo fans. I am preparing myself this week to ensure next week goes as smoothly as possible. I sincerely hope to chat with everyone in the comments and on Twitter about anything E3 2012!!

Wii U Most Likely the name of Nintendo's Next Console

Looks like the Wii U name isn't going anywhere, that is if Nintendo's recent addition to their press assets has anything to do with the situation. Yesterday, Nintendo uploaded an official Wii U logo for the press to use in the upcoming weeks. The logo you see above is dated 2012 and is the highest quality logo available at the moment; at least I'm pretty sure it is the highest quality available. I was a little put off when Nintendo revealed the name of its new console back at E3 2011, but I've since grown to accept it. It still may cause consumer confusion (and I'm sure there are those that despise the name), but it looks like the name is here to stay.

E3 2012, hurry up please!

Nintendo Opens an Official Wii U Facebook Page

Direct Link

Nintendo has just opened an official Wii U Facebook page! As seen in the video above, Reggie promises that this page will be host to tons of Wii U news being announced at E3 2012. It's not much of an update, but I'm sure it will prove to be a hot spot during Nintendo's E3 conference this year.

Shigeru Miyamoto Wins Prince of Asturias Award

Shigeru Miyamoto was trending this morning (and may still be) on Twitter, so I put on my detective hat and did some investigation. Turns out that Mr. Miyamoto has received the Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities 2012. While most of us will never have the pleasure of knowing the man personally, it is safe to assume that he is very deserving of the award! Congratulations Miyamoto-san!

For those wondering about the Prince of Asturias Awards; it is a series of awards given in Spain annually to recognize groups or individuals in areas of sciences, humanities, and public affairs.

Five Things I Want in New Super Mario Bros. 2

Just an excuse to post this image again
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is coming in August and I couldn't be more excited. I'm a HUGE fan of sidescrolling games in general, but there's just that something extra special about Mario games. Saying I'm excited about a new Mario platformer is like saying chocolate and peanut butter go together, but after doing some thinking I realized that we don't know a whole lot about the game. I've seen plenty of sites do articles like these, so I think it's time that I add some speculation of my own to the fire. Here are Five Things I Want in New Super Mario Bros. 2!

1.) Sky High Secrets

Remember the first time you took flight in Super Mario Bros. 3? I certainly do, and that's something I hope Nintendo can recreate in New Super Mario Bros. 2. Sure, Nintendo gave us the Propeller Mushroom in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but it was nowhere near as thrilling as flight in Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3. This is why I hope Nintendo scatters 1-UPs and other secrets across the sky just waiting to be found.

2.) Kuribo's Shoe

Is it cliche to want Kuribo's Shoe in a new Mario game? Feels like this one keeps coming up over and over again in Mario articles around the net. Seeing how Nintendo gave in to fan demand for the Tanooki Suit, it wouldn't be farfetched to see Kuribo's Shoe make its appearance in this game. In fact, I think that it can add more than just the nostalgia element. I can picture a level in which spikes make up platforms with a few enemies threatening to take away your Kuribo's Shoe. Maybe that's a terrible idea, but to see Kuribo's Shoe make a comeback would be pretty awesome.

3.) New Super Mario Bros. Style Bosses

I love the Koopa Kids as much as the next person, but I think they were overused in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. This is why I hope Nintendo brings back enemies as bosses like in New Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi's Island. The Koopa Kids could take their rightful spot in the final castle at the end of each world, but throw in those other boss fights at the mid-castle to add some variety.

4.) Two Player Co-op

I would love to see Nintendo include a two player co-op mode very similar to the one in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. However, I think it would work best with two players (Mario and Luigi of course), so that's all I could really expect from New Super Mario Bros. 2. I think each player could play individually on their respective Nintendo 3DS handhelds; similar to how the 2 player Mario vs. Luigi game worked in New Super Mario Bros. There may be some slight issues concerning this mode, but I trust Nintendo to come up with something that will work fine.

5.) DLC

It's inevitable, the Nintendo Network is going to make its impact sometime soon, so what better way than providing fans extra content with some New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC? We already know that New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be a downloadable title, so why not throw some DLC our way? I would love to play new levels, worlds, power-ups, or whatever Nintendo decides to do with DLC. I have revisited multiple Super Mario Bros. games time after time, but adding new levels will ensure that I have to come back. Adding DLC will make this game (and any Nintendo title for that matter) a true "long-tailed" title.

Nintendo to Stream their E3 2012 Conference Online!

Much like last year, Nintendo will be streaming their E3 2012 Conference at e3.nintendo.com, however, Nintendo is not content at stopping there. You will also be able to catch their conference on Facebook and on Viacom's Spike TV and MTV2 television networks.

Nintendo will also be utilizing their YouTube account to provide videos of their content shown at E3 and Twitter to provide fans live updates during the conference!

May 19 is Kid Icarus: Uprising Battle Day!

Was snooping around for the latest Nintendo Download when I found this press release. I thought it was interesting, so I wanted to share, even if you already read the news yesterday.

Nintendo has designated May 19 to be Kid Icarus: Uprising Multiplayer Battle Day; a mouthful, right? Nintendo is encouraging gamers to get together using www.meetup.com, a service used to organize meetups with people locally. Nintendo will be giving away AR Cards and T-Shirts and it just sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

I've posted the full press release below if you're interested in more details.

Ubisoft Bringing Seven Games to Wii U

During an investor's call this morning, Ubisoft revealed a lot of good news for its company. There was a lot of talk about how the next gen was going to be very profitable for them, as well as some talk of embracing a free-to-play structure similar to Tribes Ascend and Team Fortress 2. However, the most interesting tidbit was the announcement of seven Wii U titles coming this fiscal year.

Not all seven Wii U games were announced, but we do know that there will be five "casual" games and two "core" games. Of the titles, the Avengers game was given the "casual" title. Assassin's Creed 3 and Rayman Legends are expected to be included in this grouping

Pokemon Dream Radar and Pokedex 3D Pro Coming Later This Year

Alongside the release of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 a little later this year, Nintendo will also release two pieces of Pokemon software on the Nintendo eShop. Both titles can be thought of as companion software for the new Pokemon games.

First up is Pokemon Dream Radar which will use the Nintendo 3DS camera, gyro control, and AR to help you catch Pokemon. Pokemon will be hidden and you can find them by moving around and catching them with a special beam. Caught Pokemon can be transferred to both Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2. Word is that there will also be some hard to catch Pokemon as well. No word on price (or release date) for the title, but it can be purchased and downloaded from the Nintendo eShop later this year.

Lastly, Nintendo will also be releasing Pokedex 3D Pro which is going to be an enhanced version of the free Pokedex 3D. Pokedex 3D Pro will come with all Pokemon already unlocked, and outside of that there doesn't seem to be anything new added. I guess if you want to take some of the fun out of Pokedex 3D then you will be able to purchase this title a little later this year on the Nintendo eShop.

New Nintendo 3DS System Update and Mario Kart 7 Update

Late last night there was a small Nintendo 3DS system update available, but I didn't find out what it did until this morning. Consumers that download the new update will be able to download the Mario Kart 7 Update now available to consumers. This update fixes shortcut glitches found in Wuhu Island Loop, Wuhu Mountain Loop, and GBA Bowser Castle 1.

You will not be able to play online unless you download the new update. This is great news for those sick of seeing people choose Wuhu Island over, and over, and over. Those that can't get online will still be able to participate in local multiplayer and singe player modes as per usual.

Nintendo Selects Pikmin 2 and Mario Power Tennis Box Art

Got these in my e-mail from Nintendo, so here they are for you!

Nintendo Serves up More Great Deals with Pikmin 2, Mario Power Tennis, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Donkey Kong Country Returns

Nintendo is at it again with more price drops for some popular Wii and GameCube video games. First up is Pikmin 2 and Mario Power Tennis being added to the already impressive Nintendo Selects lineup. These two GameCube titles can be found for a budget price of $19.99 starting June 10, 2012. However, Nintendo isn't content with stopping there.

In a surprising move, Nintendo has opted to offer Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Donkey Kong Country Returns for the amazing price of $29.99. Why they didn't just add them to the Nintendo Selects lineup is a little baffling, but honestly, for two amazing Wii video games, I can't complain.

I have only played a Pikmin game once - that game being Pikmin 2 on the GameCube - so I'm not very familiar with the series as a whole. However, I think this trailer does a great job of showing how Pikmin works. Fans of the series have to be getting excited for the Wii release of Pikmin 2. It will certainly give a nice refresher to those anxiously awaiting Pikmin 3.

Ubisoft Announces Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth for Wii U

Ubisoft announced on Twitter today that Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth will be released on the Wii U after the console launches later this year. Battle for Earth will not be based on the movie, instead it will be based on the Secret Invasion comic series and will feature Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk fending off an invasion of Skrull aliens. Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth will feature motion controls, presumably through the Wii U's capability to use the Wii Remote, and 20 other characters from the Marvel universe.

No Plans for a Kid Icarus: Uprising Sequel

IGN has pried a little more information out of Masahiro Sakurai, but I'm not sure if fans will be too pleased. Sakurai has revealed that he has no plans, or interest in doing a sequel to Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Personally, I'd like to see what else could be done with the Kid Icarus franchise. Maybe a retro inspired Kid Icarus platformer? That's my thought, what about yours? Feel free to post a comment below!

Not one of the better commercials from recent months, but it does serve up a good picture of Mario Tennis Open.

Date and Time for Nintendo's E3 2012 Conference Confirmed

Nintendo has spilled the beans on both the date and time for their E3 2012 conference. Nintendo fans will get their fix of new software and hardware information on June 5th starting at 9:00 A.M. PST. That is during the middle of the afternoon for me, so I will be more than ready for the influx of information.

More information on how I will cover E3 2012 to come a little later this month.

Mario Tennis Open Online, StreetPass and Unlockable Characters

Nintendo has revealed more details on the upcoming Mario Tennis Open in a press release today. Gamers can expect to play online and locally with up to four players. The best news here? Gamers can compete against each other, or team up and take on the competition in doubles matches! Nintendo will also have monthly leaderboards and players can win Victory Medals for every player they defeat.

There are also some small details on the Ink Showdown game as well. In this game, Piranha Plants will spit ink at you while you try to hit tennis balls away from your opponent. Of course, you must also destroy the ink balls before they splatter against your screen.

Play Nintendo's E3 2012 Predictions

It’s May again; you know what that means, right? We are just a little under a month away from E3 2012 and gamers are preparing for a huge explosion of Nintendo news. This will be my second time covering an E3 event and while I won’t be at the Los Angeles Convention Center, I will be covering the news live from the comfort of my own home. Last year I thought I did an OK job with the news, but felt a little overwhelmed. Luckily, this year I have a little more experience under my belt and feel that I will do a much better job, but more on those plans soon.

Today, I want to share with you my E3 2012 Predictions; this was a popular article for me last year, so here we are again. Are your bodies ready for my predictions? Are your bodies ready for E3 2012? Let’s have a look at some potential Nintendo news, and some other stuff that will be a bit outlandish. With that said, on to the predictions!

Wii U Launch Titles
Chance of Occurring: Very Likely
Last year we had the privilege of getting our first glimpse at Nintendo’s new console, but we were left with more questions than answers. Fast forward a year and while we have learned about some additional features and a few games, we are still in the dark about the majority of things. One thing I am certain will be announced at E3 2012 are the Wii U launch titles.

I’m sure we will learn a ton about the console including some previously unannounced features, but high quality software is always the ultimate sell. Nintendo has previously stated that they learned their lesson with the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, so you would think they are ready to drop some bombshells. Announcing a varied list of high quality Wii U launch titles is exactly the thing to do to get the consumer excited.
