Nintendo Announces Game of The Weekend Program
A big announcement is hiding inside the weekly Nintendo Download and I felt it deserved its own post. Nintendo has started a "Game of the Weekend" program that will see select Nintendo eShop titles being sold at a discount. It technically started last weekend with the Super Mario Land sale, but looks like it will be continuing, at least for now. This weekend's game is VVVVVV which is being sold for $4.99(solid 3 dollar deal!) starting 9 AM tomorrow and lasting until 9 PM Sunday, July 1.
Looks like it's time for me to download that game!

New 3DS Firmware Update Available Today
Just updated my 3DS, so I can confirm that the update does indeed exist. I also believe that I'm late to the party as I just found out about this. A little research (and Google Translation) shows that this update is stability/security update. Other than a more stable 3DS, there is also the option to use more characters when setting a password in the eShop when storing your credit card info.

Correction: Nintendo 3DS XL Comes With an Adapter
I foolishly reported that the 3DS XL wouldn't come with an AC Adapter on my Twitter account last week. Well, after a bit of research, I have found out that Nintendo will definitely be including an adapter with the 3DS XL. This is research I should have done last week, and even though it wasn't on the blog, this is information that I needed to correct. I apologize for handing out false information on Twitter. Moments like this one is exactly why I rather deal in fact over rumor. Cheers!

Nintendo Direct was full of surprising announcements, and here is another one. New Super Mario Bros. 2 will support paid DLC in the form of new Coin Rush levels. No price has been announced for the levels, but they should come sometime after the game is launched.
Is this the right way to go about DLC for a Mario game? There will be new levels to play, but none that affect the main quest, so I think this is the way to go. What do you think?

Nintendo 3DS XL Confirmed!
In probably the biggest (literally) news from this morning's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has announced a super sized version of their newest handheld. That's right, Nintendo is bringing a Nintendo 3DS XL to North America. While the design is similar to the old 3DS (you know, except for the 90% bigger screens), the lack of a second slide pad is extremely noticeable. Not all is bad, the handheld supposedly has a better battery life than the original Nintendo 3DS. I'll take that any day of the week.
You can buy a Nintendo 3DS XL on August 19 for suggested retail price of $199.99. Pricier than the Nintendo 3DS, but still less than the original launch price. Check out the box art and another stylish image below:

Nintendo Joins Forces with Namco Bandai to Create New Super Smash Bros. Game
Probably the biggest surprise to come from Nintendo Direct earlier this morning was an announcement regarding Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U/Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo announced that they will be joining forces with Namco Bandai (Tekken/Soul Calibur) to create the new Super Smash Bros. games. Project Sora featuring Masahiro Sakurai is still on board, so Super Smash Bros. fans should rest easy knowing that. This is being done mainly because the scope of the game has become large with two versions being developed at the same time.
In my opinion, this is a great move by Nintendo. Tekken and Soul Calibur games have consistently been quality fighters, so I have no qualms with Namco Bandai being involved. I'm left with only one question; was Capcom considered for the position?

All Wii U and 3DS Games to go Digital

According to an interview conducted by GeekMom over at wired.com, all Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games going forward will be made available as a digital download. Fret not collectors, all games will be made available in a physical format as well. Huge step for Nintendo, but it's about time they start to embrace online services a bit more. I'll always want a physical copy as long as they are made available, however, having the digital option is nice in a pinch.

That's definitely a drag for those that wanted online co-op (me), but if I'm being honest with myself, I probably wouldn't use that option much anyway. Wreck-It Ralph Arcade Game Exists! (Fix-It Felix Jr. Review)
Direct Link
Chances are you've already seen the above trailer for Wreck-It Ralph. So, I probably don't have to say anything as this has been taking the gaming community by storm. But for those unfamiliar with the movie, Wreck-It Ralph is an animated film that is host to a lot of familiar video game characters. There's Bowser, Q-Bert, Eggman (Ahem, Dr. Robotnik), Zangief and more. The main character, Ralph, is the bad guy inside an arcade game called Fix-It Felix Jr. Ralph has grown tired of being a villain, leaves the game and sets out to become a hero. Here's the really cool part; Fix-It Felix Jr. actually exists.
In a brilliant marketing effort on Disney's part, they have created a working version of Fix-It Felix Jr. and surprisingly, it's pretty good!
In Fix-It Felix Jr., you control Felix Jr. and are tasked with fixing up a building. A building that has been destroyed by bad guy Ralph! It's reminiscent of 80s arcade games that are extremely easy to learn, yet challenging to master.
Each stage will have a set of broken windows and as Felix Jr. you must fix them. You move Felix around the windows by using the Arrow Keys and Fix windows by pressing spacebar. However, it isn't all fun and games as Ralph tries to stop you by throwing bricks down at your head. If he hits you with a brick you will lose a life. You must also watch out for Duck Hunt like birds coming your way as well. Luckily, some awesome citizens will bake you a pie, a pie that gives you 1000 points!
As you start to move up the building, more obstacles will appear that restrict your movement. Objects like signs and overhangs will get in your way, so you must navigate around them. This makes the game a lot more challenging as you still have to avoid Ralph's barrage of bricks and incoming ducks.
Disney has also done a fantastic job of recreating that arcade feel with retro inspired graphics and nostalgic music. Overall, this game is worth a look even if you have no intentions of seeing the movie this November.

Best Games of E3 2012
E3 2012 week is slowly winding to a close, and as a whole, it was a pretty underwhelming week. However, that doesn't mean we didn't get to see new games, or learn new information about incoming games. There are a ton of games to talk about, but only a few stood out above the rest. In this article, I'm going to share what I think were the best games of E3 2012, but in a shocking plot twist, I will also discuss X-Box 360 and PS3 titles! Let's face it, it's not E3 without them.
New Super Mario Bros. U
For me, nothing beats a great platformer, and New Super Mario Bros. U is bound to be one. Sure, it's going to be strikingly familiar, but for a 2D Super Mario game, would you want it any other way?
New Super Mario Bros. U retains the four player cooperative mayhem introduced in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but also adds a fifth player to the mix thanks to the Wii U GamePad. Player number 5 (or anybody using the Wii U GamePad) can take advantage of what Nintendo is calling "Boost Mode" to place temporary platforms for the other players about to die, or even take a few pot shots at the enemy. New power-ups are also being introduced in the form of Flying Squirrel Mario and some unique Baby Yoshi powers. Looks like I have another fun romp through the Mushroom Kingdom on my hands.

LEGO Batman 2 3DS Demo Available Now and Four More Incoming!
Unfortunately, there's not much to talk about coming from Nintendo's 3DS Software Showcase, but there were some little tidbits for fans. Those interested in LEGO Batman 2 can download a demo right now on the eShop! Though, it's the four other demos that have me the most interested.
Coming sometime soon we should see demos for the following four games:

Nintendo's E3 2012 Presentation was Underwhelming
This article is going to be a little different for me to write, because for the first time since 2008, Nintendo has really disappointed me with their E3 showing. Before I go on ranting about why this conference was underwhelming, let me just say that not all of it was absolutely terrible. This isn't a Nintendo is doomed and Wii U sucks article, but there was legitimate disappointment that I have to get off my chest.
Read the rest if you're looking for an objective and honest review of Nintendo's E3 2012 show. If you want to ream me in the comments, go for it, but that won't change a thing.

fully realized objects that pop off the screen in stunning 3D.
