Review Scale

All Play Nintendo featured reviews will follow the rating scale outlined below. Each category is reviewed for that specific game and then given a score out of 10. Games can possibly achieve a total score of 50. Overall scores will be given as a percentage and will be the finalized score for that game.

Gameplay – Will be given a score based simply on how well the game is played. Controls, objectives and game mechanics will be the main focus.

Story – Score will be given based on how well the story compliments the game. Writing and flow are important factors in this category.

Design – Graphics and art directions will be scored in this category. The score will be determined based on the console as well. Nintendo DS games will be compared to other DS games, but not to Wii games.

Sound – Sound scoring can only be determined based on the music and sound effects. A catchy song and of course quality will be important factors here.

Value – Is the game worth your money? This category will determine if replay value and other added value such as length, secrets, online components, etc. will make the purchase worthwhile.

Overall – An overview of the above categories culminating to the final score.

Retro reviews will be a little different, they follow a 5/5 D-Pad system made to easily distinguish between the good and bad of retro gaming.

5/5 Awesome - Any game that achieves this rating is definitely close to perfect with just a few minor flaws.

4/5 Great - A game that gets this rating is certainly well worth your time. However, a few flaws keep it from getting a higher rating.

3/5 Good - Far from perfect, but still worth your time and effort. Fans of the series will not pass this up, but other gamers might.

2/5 Bad - Bad is never good, but this game has some redeeming quality that puts it above horrendous.

1/5 Horrendous - This game is probably ignored by most of the gaming community.

0/5 Crap - This game stinks
